In 1844 Henry David Thoreau translated a passage from the French translation of the
Lotus Sutra (Saddharmapundarikasutra) for Dial magazine. With Thoreau's translation
and commentary America commenced its dialog on Buddhism.
UDUMBARA FOUNDATION is a non-profit, Buddhist foundation following the tradition
of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, believing in Namu-myoho-renge-kyo as the true Law and
Nichiren Daishonin as the True Buddha. The foundation is an American-based
representative of Sanbo-in temple which is located in Fukuyama City, Japan. Our mission
is to transmit the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin as taught by Shoshin-kai (True Faith
Awakening) priest, Reverend Raido Hirota.
This site is dedicated to presenting a discourse on True Buddhism. We respect all people
for their inherent Buddha nature and hope this site will open the eyes of all who visit it, and
aid in leading you to your enlightenment
