It is written in Buddhist lore that the udumbara flower blooms only once every three thousand years.

In 1844 Henry David Thoreau translated a passage from the French
translation of the
Lotus Sutra (Saddharmapundarikasutra) for Dial
magazine. With Thoreau's translation and commentary America
commenced its dialog on Buddhism.

UDUMBARA FOUNDATION is a non-profit, Buddhist foundation
following the tradition of  
Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, believing in
Namu-myoho-renge-kyo as the true Law and  Nichiren Daishonin as the
True Buddha.  The foundation publishes  
The Middle Way, a newsletter
which transmits the teachings of
Shoshin-kai (True Faith Awakening)
priests of Nichiren Daishonin's true Buddhism.

This site is dedicated to presenting a discourse on True Buddhism. We
respect all people for their inherent Buddha nature and hope this site will
open the eyes of all who visit it, and aid in leading you to your

Udumbara Foundation is not a lay organization, nor is it a membership organization. It is a public non-profit, 501(c)
organization, established for the sole purpose of disseminating the true teachings of Nichiren Daishonin as taught
by Nichiren Shoshu Shoshin-kai to the English speaking world.

I respect everyone deeply. I do not despise anyone, not even a little, or look down
on anyone with contempt, because everyone has the capacity to become a Buddha of
Namu-myoho-renge-kyo, if they believe in  Namu-myoho-renge-kyo and practice.
